Fancy Invitation Ideas

Use scrolled invitations for a fancy look.

For your next event, marvel your guests with unique invitations. Use bold colors, handmade paper and embossed images for your fancy invitations. You can also incorporate 3D embellishments such as seashells, flowers, beads and charms to elevate a simple invitation into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Present the invitation as a rolled up scroll or inside a silk box for a final touch of class. Does this Spark an idea?

Material

To make your invitations unique, use a material other than paper. Invitation designers can use a variety of materials to engrave your invitations, including plexiglass, wood veneers, acrylic, fabric stitching and glass etching.

Paper

If your invitation is on paper, you have many options to choose from. Handmade paper, paper with pressed flowers, linen paper and seed paper are all fancy substitutions for traditional paper. Start with one of these more interesting options to create a fancy invitation.

Theme

Match your invitation with your theme for a cohesive look. Baby shower invitations can include embellishments of a baby diaper or carriage. Tropical parties can use bright colors with images of leis. A barbecue invitation can feature the silhouette of a cowboy. Add a skull and crossbones for your son's pirate theme birthday.

Color

The days of simple white invitations are gone. More elaborate invitation and font colors exist today with nearly every color under the sun as a possible invitation color. Try a bright and bold color; fuchsia, lime, cantaloupe, midnight blue and dark red are all eye-catching colors. A color combination of black, gray and white makes an elegant and monochromatic alternative.

Embossing

One common element for fancy invitations is embossing. Emboss the initials of the bride and groom for a wedding, a meaningful phrase for a shower invitation or the age of the birthday guest. Add an extra element reminiscent of Victorian invitations by adding an embossed image to the envelope seal to look like an old wax seal. Text that is etched on gold plates creates a similar fancy appearance.

Embellishments

Add texture to your invitations with embellishments. Rhinestones, beads, fabric flowers, charms, seashells, textured ribbon and buckles provide a three dimensional aspect to your invitations.

Finishing Touches

If your invitations will be sent with liners, use a patterned tissue paper that matches your design. If the invitation includes multiple enclosures, use an invitation that contains side pockets for a practical and ornamental purpose. Hire an artist to hand-paint designs on a simple invitation.

Envelopes

Have your envelopes match your invitations for a regal look. Place lined envelopes inside the outer envelope. Coordinate the lining with the color of your invitation or text. If your invitation has a patterned design, incorporate that design onto the envelope also. Write the guest's address in calligraphy.

Presentation

Fancy invitations are not restricted to a simple envelope sent to a mailing address. Place the invitation and any accompanying stationery into a decorative box covered in thick paper or fabric. Scrolls are another fancy option. Hire a costumed agent to hand-deliver your invitations for an upscale delivery method.
