Homemade wedding favors put a personal touch on your reception and can save you money.
Some couples want to do more for their wedding guests by making homemade favors. Homemade wedding favors can be relatively inexpensive, and you can put them together way in advance of the wedding. By making homemade wedding favors, you can add another dimension of yourself to the wedding celebration. Choose from a variety of ideas and then tailor the favors to make them truly yours.
Soaps
Personalize a bar of homemade soap and give it as a wedding favor. There are so many options out there for homemade soap making. You can either purchase books or download recipes to make homemade soaps from scratch, or you can simply buy melt-and-pour soaps from the local craft store. You will want some sort of mold to make your soaps, which you can buy or make out of something recycled from your home, such as washed out tuna cans. If you want to make the soaps even more interesting or personal, you can add something into the soap while it is setting in the molds, such as a penny, dried flowers or an item that represents you and your groom. Make sure to wrap the soaps attractively with paper and ribbons. Print out a thank-you message to your guests on the paper if you so desire. You may want to put the soaps in a basket near the exit door so that young children do not attempt to eat them while sitting at reception tables.
CD
Make a CD of all your favorite music to give as a wedding favor to all of your guests. With the use of computers and downloadable songs you can find all sorts of songs. Keep in mind, you will need some kind of downloadable music software on your computer to make this wedding favor. You could write a list of the songs on the CD with a permanent marker or you could make it a little fancier by purchasing special CD stickers that you can print on using your regular printer. Design your CD label with a picture of the happy couple and print out as many as you need. When you are ready to put the sticker onto the CD be very careful and work slowly as this will help prevent bubbles and keep you from ruining labels.
Candles
Make small jar candles to set at each place for the reception. Look for small jars, specifically for filling with hot wax, at dollar and craft stores. You will want to wash the jars before you use them to make sure they are very clean and that there is nothing inside the jars that could spoil the candles. Make sure the jars are perfectly dry before adding hot wax. If you are an experienced candle maker, use the supplies you already have in your stash. If you are not an experienced candle maker, never fear. Purchase wax at the craft store, as well as oils for fragrance and colorings. Make small votive-size candles in jars for the favors. To personalize them, print out small pictures of the couple on sticker paper and affix the sticker to the jar after allowing the wax to cool completely. You can make bigger candles in the same manner for centerpieces if desired.
