Duck Birthday Ideas

Add a few painted wooden ducks to the party.

Party planners or caregivers can arrange a duck-themed birthday party for a guest of honor of any age. Keep all aspects of the party in line with the theme, from the invitations to the party favors and everything in between. For a younger group, consider incorporating a rubber duck theme for the party, whereas older groups may enjoy a more artistic theme with painted artwork and nature scenes. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations

Consider adding a toy duck to a party invitation that can be hand delivered. Cut out a medium-size piece of blue card stock in an irregular circular shape. Use a calligraphy pen to write the details of the party on one side of the card stock and let the ink dry. Place the card stock with the written side down. Apply a layer of fast-drying glue to the underside of a rubber duck and attach the duck to the center of the blue card stock. For an alternative idea, cut out the shape of a duck from a piece of yellow card stock and write the invitations on the card stock duck.

Decorations

Begin by filling the party area with a variety of different size yellow balloons and duck-shaped balloons. For a little bit of color variation, add the occasional blue balloon and tie a cluster of balloons to blue foil balloon weights. Cover each table with a blue plastic tablecloth and use a sponge cut into the shape of a webbed duck footprint to make tracks all over the tablecloths. Use duck-themed disposable plates, napkins and cups at each place setting and a collection of plush ducks and plastic figurines as a table centerpiece.

Activities

For a party group of any age, purchase unpainted ceramic ducks and have each guest paint a duck to bring home for a memorable keepsake of the event. Play pin-the-duck-in-the-tub, have a duck waddle race, where participants put a balloon between their knees and then race against the other guests to make it to the other side of the party area first. Play a duck pond game using an inflatable kiddie pool and some rubber ducks. Before playing, write numbers on the bottom of the ducks to coordinate with a prize allotment. When it is time to hand out goody bags, let each child pick a duck from the pond and then choose a prize that corresponds to the number on the duck.

Cake

Choose from a variety of duck-themed cakes for a birthday party, such as a 3D duck cake with fondant or butter cream icing. Party planners can also make a cake from a duck-shaped cake pan and decorate with regular fluffy icing. Other options include a slab cake decorated with fondant ducks or duck-shaped cookies. Make individual cupcakes and top each with a candy or plastic duck figure. For easy serving at the party, make a batch of cupcakes and arrange them together to form a duck shape. Ice the cupcakes together to make a duck pull-apart cake.
