Barbie has invaded every part of society and makes a great theme party!
For more than 50 years, Barbie has delighted little girls around the world. No wonder, then, that so many of them want to have a Barbie-themed birthday party. However, it can be a challenge to throw a Barbie party that's different from other similar parties. By thinking outside the box about Barbie themes, you plan a party that stands alone in a girl's and her friends' memories for years afterwards. Does this Spark an idea?
Barbie's Careers
In her 50-year history, Barbie has had more than 100 careers! You can find lists of these careers online, but they include occupations such as doctor, pilot, astronaut, even princess. Invite guests to come dressed as their favorite Barbie, ready to explain their costumes to the other guests. At the party, have children make lists, guessing how many careers Barbie has had and trying to list as many as they can think of. The child who gets the closest in number and the child who can list the most careers should both get prizes. Not only is this a fun way to make a Barbie party original, but it also encourages young girls to think about their own careers.
Barbie's Outfit Swap
Barbie's outfits accumulate quickly, but little girls probably tire of them just as fast. One great solution to this (as well as a theme for a Barbie birthday party) is to have a Barbie clothing swap. Have guests bring their extra Barbie clothes with them. Put the clothes into a big pile and let each girl pick out as many items of clothing as she brought with her. Drawing numbers to figure out who will take the first, second and third turn, and beyond, can prevent arguing over particularly coveted items, especially for preschool and early elementary girls. It's also a good idea to have some new Barbie clothes on hand for the last girls to pick; this ensures that girls who didn't have any extra Barbie clothes have something to take away with them at the end of the party.
Barbie's Friends
Barbie always gets all the attention, but there are a variety of characters in Barbie's world who never get their fair due, such as Ken, Skipper or Midge. Have a party celebrating these characters. Decorate using these dolls, which are available online and at most toy stores. Quiz children's knowledge of their careers, histories and relationships to Barbie. Raffles to win these dolls are also a fun way to give out party favors--just make sure that you have enough dolls for all of the guests.
