Birthday Celebrating Ideas

A traditional birthday is celebrated with cake, candles and balloons.

When celebrating your birthday, you are celebrating the beginning of you and your life. As you get older, you celebrate your accomplishments and how your life has turned out. Whether you want to bring in your new year with a bang, or have a humble celebration, the possibilities are limitless. Does this Spark an idea?

Plan a Getaway

Make a plan, save some money, take some time off of work and get away. Whether you would like to take a lavish trip to a different country or just a weekend getaway to a bed and breakfast, sometimes just being in a new place, around different people is just what you need to rejuvenate your spirit and give you a new perspective on life. If you just want to relax, visit a bed and breakfast or book a cruise. If you're looking for adventure, consider planning a hiking trip or visiting another country.

Volunteer

When birthdays roll around, people can be left feeling depressed, emotional and in some cases even defeated. Counteract these negative feelings by helping those less fortunate. Volunteering has been shown to reduce depression, increase self-confidence and, when done on a regular basis, even help people to stay physically fit.

On your birthday, make someone else's birthday special. There are organizations across the country that provide homeless children with birthday parties. There are several ways to become a part of this effort, including painting faces, making food, coordinating events or donating funds.

Celebrate With Family and Friends

Probably the most traditional way to celebrate your birthday is with friends and family. Whether you're planning a party at home, a night out on the town or a quiet dinner, being with others to celebrate with you is a great way to bring in your new year with some laughs. For a different spin on things, plan a surprise birthday party for your parents, thanking them for bringing you into the world.

Reflect and Plan

Take some time to yourself to look back over the last couple of years. Decide what you would like to change. Write a 'to-do' list and copy it. Seal one of them, to be opened on a future birthday - after having met your goals. Your list can be simple, including things like changing your eating habits, losing weight or just being nicer to people. It can also include more complex, life-changing tasks like going back to school or moving to a new state. When the time comes to open the envelope, it will be a reminder that you have completed all of the things on your list.
