Beach Theme Parties

Play a game of tug of war at your next beach party.

Provide a feeling of relaxation and tropical paradise for your guests with a beach-themed party. From the invitations to the games, you can organize a beach party that brings you and your friends to the beach whether you are there or not. A creative imagination, a variety of ideas and some supplies are all you need to plan a memorable beach party your guests will be talking about for months to come.

Invitations

Cut flip-flop or beach ball shapes out of card stock to make beach invitations. Write the party details on the cutouts, and mail to your party guests. Other shapes to make the cutouts include sunglasses, seashells, palm trees and tropical flowers. Inflate small beach rings, and write the party details on each one. Deflate the rings, and place them in padded envelopes. When guests receive the rings, they must inflate them to read the party details. For added decoration, include small cocktail umbrellas with the invitations.

Activities

Organize a few arrival activities for your guests to do while waiting on all guests to arrive to the party. Make a colored sand jar table with several plastic bottles of colored sand. Give each guest a small glass jar to fill up with layers of colored sand. Another idea is a seashell jewelry table with elastic string and a variety of small seashells with holes. Guests can make bracelets, necklaces and anklets. These gifts work well as party favors and give the guests something to take home as mementos of the party.

Decorations

Decorate the party area with beach pails, inflatable floats, flower leis, fake palm trees, beach chairs and fishnets. Small plastic swimming pools filled with sand and seashells are ideal for decoration at a beach theme party. Place plastic toy crabs, lobsters and sand toys in the sand-filled pools. Beach towels work well as tablecloths and draped on the back of chairs. Grass skirts add color to party tables, and lit tiki torches will add light to the party. Real surfboards also will make a nice addition to the party. If you do not have a surfboard, make a few using large pieces of cardboard and paint.

Games

Guests can play a game of badminton or volleyball. Put a twist on the volleyball game by letting guests use water balloons and beach towels. They must toss and catch the balloons over the net using only the towels. You can organize a game of tropical bowling using pineapples as bowling pins and coconuts as bowling balls. Or using the plastic swimming pools filled with sand, host a sandcastle-building contest . Award prizes to the best and funniest sandcastles. Other games include limbo and tug of war.
