Art Activities For Preschoolers

Create fun drawings with art activities for preschoolers.

Whether you're a parent, teacher or caregiver, art activities for preschoolers will help you keep your little ones busy while providing them with a creative outlet. Craft projects help children to develop fine motor skills, learn about art and develop creativity. You don't have to have a rigid plan. In most cases, you can simply provide the supplies and let kids create anything they want. These ideas will help you get started.

Painting Activities

Painting is almost always a fun activity for preschoolers, with finger paints or a brush. Experiment by using different types of paint, such as acrylics, glitter paint or watercolors. You can also paint with something like a cotton ball instead of a paintbrush.

Gluing Activities

Although gluing often turns into a sticky mess, it's something most children will enjoy. Children can use items like feathers, googly eyes, colored fuzzy balls and scrap paper. Make puppets. Create pictures using shapes.

Stringing Activities

Children can make wearable art. String beads or pasta to create necklaces, bracelets and other jewelry. This can be a good opportunity to teach patterns. For example, you can teach your child string a pattern or two red squares and a yellow circle.

Coloring Activities

Coloring activities are always a good standby when you don't have anything else prepared. Make sure that you have a lot of coloring pages on hand. Younger children should use crayons, but older preschoolers can use colored pencils or markers.

Drawing Activities

Kids can also use their creativity through drawing. You can use a variety of mediums for this, such as pencils and pens, crayons, markers or chalk. Each produces a unique style of design and it's fun for kids to experiment in this way. One fun way to change things up is to use butcher paper. Cut off a large piece and put it on the floor or tape it to the wall to give kids the chance to draw on a different surface.
