Bat Mitzvah Crafts

Make your Bat Mitzvah an event to remember with a variety of crafts to commemorate the day.

According to Religion Facts, when a young girl becomes a Bat Mitzvah, she is considered an adult in the Jewish tradition. If the girl practices Reform or Conservative Judaism, a ceremony recognizing this right of passage is held. This is a special time for girls of the Jewish faith because they are now expected to follow Jewish law and uphold its teachings. You can create a variety of crafts to celebrate this special day.

Jewish Picture Frame

Purchase a blue or white plastic frame. Buy two small wooden triangles and paint them the opposite color of your picture frame. Glue the first triangle right side up on the corner of your frame. Glue the second painted triangle onto the first, but this time, place upside-down to create the Star of David. Use a silver paint pen to write the date of the Bat Mitzvah and place a photo taken from the event in your frame.

Scrapbook

Purchase a scrapbook of your choosing and buy paper that fits the size pages you chose. At the event, set out disposable cameras so that guests can take photographs during the celebration. Develop these pictures and use them for your scrapbook. Write captions under the pictures so that you will know who attended your Bat Mitzvah for years to come. Personalize your scrapbook further with a variety of Jewish-themed embellishments and stickers such as candlesticks, a Star of David, or the Torah scrolls.

Shadowbox

Purchase a plain shadowbox of any size from your local craft store. Collect various items from your Bat Mitzvah to include in the box. You might dry flowers from a center piece at the reception or keep a napkin or invitation from the event. Organize these items in a pleasing fashion and secure them to your shadow box with straight pins or clear glue. Include a hand-written tag with your Hebrew name and the date of your Bat Mitzvah somewhere inside of the box.

Decoupage Invitation Box

Take any cardboard box and paint it your favorite color. Cut your invitation to fit the lid of the box. If you need to, use a copy center to reduce or enlarge its size to accommodate the box you chose. Cut the invitation out and use decoupage glue to adhere it to the top of the box. Be sure to coat the invitation with at least two to three coats of the glue to seal it. Make a copy of the Torah portion from your Bat Mitzvah and keep it inside your remembrance box to refer to in the future.
