Baby Boy'S 1st Birthday Party Ideas

Create a themed first birthday party for your baby boy.

Although the birthday boy may not have any idea what is going on at his first birthday party, the friends and family present will enjoy celebrating the occasion. Host a first birthday party for a baby boy that incorporates a specific theme through all aspects of the party, including the invitations, decorations and cake. Does this Spark an idea?

Where the Wild Things Are

Throw a first birthday party for a wild boy and his troop of wild siblings, cousins and friends themed after the classic book "Where the Wild Things Are." Send invitations in the shape of a sailboat like the one Max used in the book to sail to the place where he found the Wild Things. Decorate the party area with jungle vines made from twisted brown paper bags and green leaves cut from construction paper. Serve cupcakes decorated with small candies or colored decorating gel to look like some of the creatures in the book.

Rubber Duck Party

Yellow rubber ducks and blue backgrounds create a festive atmosphere for a boy's first birthday party. Make simple invitations by cutting out a duck shape from yellow paper and gluing it to a blue card with the party details inside. Another idea is to put a photo on the front of the invitation with the birthday boy in the bathtub with his favorite rubber ducks. Decorate the party with blue streamers and lots of rubber ducks. If the weather is nice, set up a few wading pools outside and float rubber ducks in them. As an activity, blow bubbles for the birthday boy and his friends to chase.

Blue Blocks Theme

For a classic first birthday party theme, incorporate alphabet blocks into all aspects of the party. Make a large alphabet block by drawing numbers and letters in blue marker on the sides of a white cardboard box. Take a photo of the birthday boy standing behind the block with the number "1" facing out and use it on the invitation. Instead of baking cupcakes, cut a sheet cake into large cubes, frost them on all sides and decorate the sides with letters, numbers, shapes and small pictures in blue frosting.
