Play games with beach balls.
Warm up the winter or bring a cool vibe to the summer by throwing a party with a beach theme. Don't rely on just the decor to make guests feel as if they are at the beach--games will have them feeling as if they are having fun in the sun.
Sand Pail Fill
In this game, teams compete to see who can fill pails with sand the quickest. Place two large empty sand pails at the end of the room or yard. Divide partygoers into teams of two and have them stand ten feet away from the sand pails. Provide each team with a bucket filled with sand and a shovel. On your mark, the first player on each team scoops up sand with the shovel, runs to the empty pail and pours the sand in, then runs back to his team. The game continues like this until one team fills their pail to the top with sand--this team is declared the winner of the game.
Buried Treasure
The object of this game is to unearth the most pieces of buried treasure. Fill a kiddie pool with sand and hide seashells, fake gems and pieces of toy jewelry throughout the sand. Provide players with a bucket and a shovel. On your mark, players use their shovels to dig through the sand in search of buried treasure, placing the treasures they find in their buckets. At the end of the game, partygoers empty their buckets and count their loot. The player who finds the most items wins.
Catch the Fish
Players compete to catch the most fish in this game. Print out several images of fish on construction paper and cut them out. Use a hole puncher to punch holes in each fish and place a paper clip in each hole. Scatter the fish on the ground. Tie a piece of yarn to a wooden dowel and at the end of the yarn, tie a magnet. At the sound of a whistle blow, partygoers cast their fishing lines, try to catch a fish, "reel" in their lines when they do and remove the fish they have caught. They continue playing until all of the fish have been caught. Whoever catches the most fish is the winner of the game.
Beach Ball Toss
Players put their throwing skills to the test in this game. Set out three large garbage cans or buckets in a vertical line and have players stand 10 feet away from the garbage cans or buckets. Provide players with three beach balls, which they try to throw in the garbage cans or buckets--three points are awarded for a ball that lands in the first can or buckets, five points for balls the land in the second can or bucket and seven points for the third can or bucket. Each player is given three chances to shoot all three balls. The player to collect the most points wins.
