About Oahu Timeshares

Oahu is the most populous and visited of the Hawaiian islands.

Among Hawaii's islands, Oahu is the most visited, with many tourists coming back year after year. Some of these visitors own timeshares on Oahu and others rent them for a week or two. Oahu accounts for over 21 percent of Hawaii's timeshare market.

Locations

Waikiki Beach has several timeshare resorts.

Most of Oahu's resorts sit in or near Honolulu itself, with the favored spot near Waikiki Beach. These locations, in the heart of city life, offer shopping, restaurants, entertainment and recreation. A few other areas have resorts that offer quieter vacations. One is the Hawaiian Princess at Makaha Beach, about an hour's drive northwest of Honolulu, on a quiet beach that stretches for miles. Another is Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club at Kapolei, about a half hour's drive west of Honolulu. This location offers miles of beach on one side and the Ko Olina Golf Club on the other.

Major Resorts

Some of the world's major companies have built resorts on Oahu. The Hawaiian Princess operates the full-service 37-story resort in Honolulu with an appeal to families. The Hilton Corporation owns Grand Waikikian, Hawaiian Village and Kalia. Marriott runs the Ko Olina Beach club on the western shore of Oahu. Wyndham operates the 95-suite Fairfiled Hawaii at Waikiki Beach. Many smaller resort companies also manage timeshare resorts.

Prices

The "Pipeline" waves of the North Shore attract surfers and beachgoers.

Purchase prices vary widely according to location, amenities and size of the units. On the resale market as of September 2010, one annual week in a studio unit at Celebrity Resorts Waikiki was $3,850. A week at the Wyndham at Waikiki Beach made the top of the list at $65,520. In between those two extremes, prices ranged from $13,000 to $25,000 for a two-bedroom yearly week.
