Graduation Party Planning Checklist

Planning a graduation party should be very methodical.

Planning a graduation party can be stressful, but it doesn't have to be. When your child is graduating from high school or college, throwing a graduation party for her can be a great way of celebrating all of the hard work she has put in over the past few years, and expressing your faith that her success will continue into the future. However, it can be difficult coordinating a party, and having a good checklist will make sure that you have all of the important elements in place for your child's party. Does this Spark an idea?

Guests

If the party is not a surprise party, check with your child to see whom she wants to invite to the party. Friends from high school and college can make a welcome addition to the adult friends you'll want to invite, and she will be able to provide you with their addresses for the invitations. This is also a good point to decide exactly how many people you want to invite.

Invitations

There are an unlimited number of ways to make invitations for a graduation party. You can make them yourself on your computer, have them printed, or simply buy them at the store and fill in relevant details. Make sure that you have enough stamps to mail them all. If there is a theme to the graduation party, the invitation is a great place to work this in.

Decor

If you have a theme, coordinating decorations will be easier. At a minimum, balloons and streamers are appropriate and festive. You can find basic party decorations at stores like WalMart or Walgreens, and more complicated items at specialty party stores.

Food

Here you have a wide variety of options. You can make a variety of simple finger foods yourself to have a buffetlike array of choices for your guests, pick up a few things at the local grocery store or bakery, or have the party catered. A lot will depend on the formality of the party and on the budget you have allocated for it.

Presents

Don't forget to buy your grad a present. It can be a nice touch to give your grad the present you've purchased at the party. Picking out graduation presents is a very personal affair, and a lot will depend on your child's interests, your budget and other factors.

Thank You Cards

Be sure to pick up some packets of thank you cards during your preliminary shopping so that your child can write thank you notes for the presents she receives immediately after the party. The sooner she does it, the easier it will be to remember who gave her what.
