Adult Hawaiian Party Ideas

Hawaii is a popular and fun party theme for adults.

Hawaiian-theme parties are a great way for adults to embrace their inner beach bum. Escape from your everyday life, and enjoy fun games, quirky surroundings and tasty drinks. Hawaiian-theme parties are easy to plan, too. You only need a little creativity and a few good suggestions to make your next office affair, anniversary celebration, birthday party or weekend get-together a success. Does this Spark an idea?

Hire Dancers

Find a troupe of dancers that can entertain guests by doing the hula or another Hawaiian dance. Talent agencies in large cities can provide a catalog of professional dancers available for gigs. Check out local belly dancing schools as well. Classes are often offered at community centers. When the performance is over, ask your entertainers to open up the dance floor and give lessons to willing guests.

Create a Signature Cocktail

Exotic cocktails are one way to incorporate a Hawaiian theme to any party.

Serve drinks made with coconut, pineapple and rum. Mai Tais, Pina Coladas, Blue Hawaiians, Rum Punch and Hurricanes are popular choices but don't be afraid to invent your own signature concoction. Stock the bar with miniature umbrellas, cute drink favors and amusing glasses. Nothing says luau like drinking out of a coconut shell. Make sure a virgin option is available for guests who are driving or who don't drink alcohol.

Have Guests Dress the Part

Ask your guests to don island inspired outfits. Outfits don't need to be over the top and silly. Instead of grass skirts, coconut bras and loincloths think cute summer dresses, flower printed shirts, and Khaki shorts. Mention the dress code in your invitations and enforce it at the door. Keep a Hawaiian shirt on hand for guests who think they can get away with wearing jeans and a T-shirt.

Have Guests Play Fun Island Games

Organize little contests and games for your guests to compete in throughout the party. Crown a limbo champion, discover which guests have great hula-hoop skills and single out the party-goers with the best Hawaiian shirts. Award winners with island-inspired party favors like sunglasses or nice beach towels.

Decorations and Atmosphere

Leis are necklaces fashioned with tropical flowers.

Consider hosting your adult Hawaiian party at the beach or poolside. These backdrops set the mood without requiring a lot of extra décor. Otherwise set the scene with tiki torches, artificial palm trees, (you can rent plastic ones from a party supply company or make your own with construction paper and papier-mâché), and beach umbrellas.

When guest arrive present them with a lei. Your local florist can provide real ones, and party supply stores sell inexpensive plastic versions. If you end up using a beach as your venue, build a bonfire to keep your guests warm (but make sure there are no campfire restrictions in place first).
